Impressionné et inspiré par les trains de nuit Pullman aux Etats-Unis, l'ingénieur et entrepreneur liègeois Georges Nagelmackers fonde à son retour une compagnie de transport de passagers à travers le continent européen "pour ouvrir son esprit et oublier ses soucis".
Même si George Mortimer Pullman a conçu ses wagons avec plus d'intimité qu'auparavant, Nagelmackers manque de confort lors de son voyage à travers le continent américain. Il conçoit donc une (petite) cabine pour que le voyageur se sente à sa place dans le système industriel des chemins de fer. L'élégance, le confort et un intérieur raffiné sont utilisés pour persuader le voyageur de cette époque. Son premier train amène les voyageurs d'Ostende, sur la mer du Nord, à la ville italienne de Brindisi, sur la mer Adriatique.
Le 4 décembre, nous commémorons la fusion de ses premiers pas dans la "Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits" (CIWL) à Bruxelles et donc le début de la mise de Bruxelles et de la Belgique au centre des trains de nuit.
La fête est célébrée par un événement en collaboration avec un autre pays qui met le train de nuit à l'honneur. Les citoyens de toute l'Europe sont invités à partager leurs histoires, photos, films et idées sur le train de nuit sur les médias sociaux avec le hashtag #NightTrainDay.
Pour cette année, on vous demande :
- De partager votre photo, vidéo, histoire..... avec #NightTrainDay. sur les médias sociaux ou en l'envoyant à belgium@back-on-track.eu avec #NightTrainDay. dans le sujet. Nous assemblerons une grande image avec ces images!

Impressed and inspired by the Pullman night trains in the United States, the Liègois engineer and entrepreneur Georges Nagelmackers founded upon his return a company to transport passengers across the European continent ‘to open ones’ mind and forget worries.
Even though George Mortimer Pullman designed his wagons with more intimacy than existed before, Nagelmackers lacks comfort during his travel across the American continent. Therefore, he designs a (small) cabin to let the traveller feel at his place within the industrial system of the railways. Elegancy, comfort and a refined interior are used to persuade the traveller of those days. His first train brings travellers from Ostende on the North Sea to the Italian Brindisi on the Adriatic Sea.
On the 4th of December we remember the merging of his first steps into the << Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits » (CIWL) in Brussels and therefore setting the start of putting Brussels and Belgium in the center of the night trains. It is celebrated by an event together with another country putting the night train in the picture. People all over Europe are invited to share their stories, pictures, movies, ideas about the night train on social media with the hashtag # #NightTrainDay
